In 2021, Wikimedia Armenia joined the WPWP project, which is gaining momentum year after year on international wiki platforms. The project aims to enrich the pages of multilingual wiki projects with existing or newly uploaded photos on Wikimedia Commons. The requirements are:
- A photo should be added in the articles that have no photo,
- The added photo should have an explanation.
Articles can be in any language and in any wiki project.
Unfortunately, Wikimedia Armenia could not apply for a grant; thus, there is no chance of increasing the interest towards the project by even the most modest prizes. In any case, 9 participants took part in the project adding 608 photos to the articles.
"Financial-Economic Wikimonth" project's awards ceremony
The joint "Financial-Economic Wikimonth" project of Wikimedia Armenia and the Central Bank of Armenia was summed up. From June 1-30, 2021, the experienced editors who had already participated in Wikipedia courses started editing articles on financial and economic topics on the Armenian Wikipedia.
After the end of the competition, the Central Bank and partner financial organizations (including banks) checked the content and the quality of the articles. The Wikimedia Armenia team evaluated the articles in terms of wikification and quantity. Then these results were combined and the winners were determined.
An event was held at the Central Bank of Armenia on August 30, where the first 3 participants received awards from partner financial organizations of the Central Bank of Armenia. In addition to the top three, 7 special awards were presented by partner organizations.
During the event, the Wikimedia Armenia event coordinator spoke about the evaluation mechanisms and the formula of combining the scores both from Wikimedia Armenia and the Central Bank and partner financial organizations. WMAM President Susanna Mkrtchyan presented the importance of similar programs and the necessity of making them continuous. The representative of the Union of Banks spoke about the participation of banks in similar programs. The event summarizing the “Financial-Economic Wikimonth” project was organized by the Central Bank of Armenia.

The annual Wikimania conference was held online this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Wikimedia Armenia also participated in Wikimania on August 13-17, presenting a talk on WMAM educational and GLAM projects.
As the annual conference was held online this year, there were two options: to speak live during Wikimania or to pre-record and provide the recording to the Wikimedia organizing team. The Wikimedia Armenia team decided to make the pre-recorded version of the speech in order to avoid technical and other problems during the actual conference.
The speech, entitled "WikiEducation Approach and GLAM Projects of Wikimedia Armenia", lasted 45 minutes, during which Wikimedia Armenia educational programs were presented in detail:
- Teachers’ Wikipedia courses,
- Thematic content development collaborations with universities and various institutes.
The impressions and achievements of the participants of each project were presented to the international wiki community through short videos. The section dedicated to GLAM projects presented Wikimedia Armenia's activities in this direction, concentrating on cooperations with various museums and GLAM structures.
This year Wikimania was dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Wikipedia, so it had to thematically reflect on the past, the present, and the vision of the future. Following this format, Wikimedia Armenia's presentation presented the path of each project, its current activities, and its direction and vision for the future.
Wikiclubs spent the last month of summer combining the holidays with contributing to the Armenian Wikipedia. Club members have quite actively participated in the projects organized on wiki platforms as well as intra-club events.
Karvachar Wikiclub continued to work online, doing translations during Zoom meetings and creating new articles on the Armenian Wikipedia.
Lernapat Wikiclub initiated an edit-a-thon contest on August 2, in which three teams participated. The participants edited articles about the champions and medalists of the Tokyo Summer Olympic Games. In addition to editing, the teams participated in various competitions for three weeks. The contest was summarized on August 19. In total, about 100 articles have been created.
The Alaverdi Wikiclub members organized a video call, as a result of which a new member joined the club, and in this regard, the club members dedicated an article (Belfort) to the newcomer.
It has become a tradition in Alaverdi Wikiclub to create articles about the important events of that month. Thus, the club members created articles on International Mother Earth Day, Independence Day of Ukraine, and World Population Day. An article about Motkor was created from scratch by one of the club members.
The Goris Wikiclub members actively participated in the “Wiki Campaign on Armenian Topics” project, creating numerous articles.
The Ddmashen Wikiclub actively worked on Wikisource proofreading new pages. They also contributed to Wikipedia.
The Wikiclubs also had new participants this month.
