Abdou Souleye Diop

Abdou Souleye Diop (born February 21, 1970 in Dakar) is a Senegalese business leader. He is currently managing partner of Mazars in Morocco, member of the Mazars board for Africa and the Middle East. Since September 2020, he is the Chairman of the CGEM “Africa” commission.[1][2]'[3]

Education[edit]

After primary studies at the French school in New Delhi, Diop did his secondary studies in Senegal (Lycée Van-Vollenhoven) and in Morocco where he obtained his Baccalaureate series C at the Lycée Descartes in Rabat in 1988[4]. He entered the normal cycle of the Higher Institute of Commerce and Business Administration (ISCAE Casablanca) the same year and obtained the normal cycle diploma there in 1992. Through the Accounting Expertise Cycle he obtained the Certificate of Advanced Financial and Accounting Studies (CEFCA), the Superior Certificate of Accounting Techniques (CSTC) and the Superior Certificate of Accounting Revision (CSRC.[5]

Career[edit]

Diop joined Mazars in Morocco in 1992. In 1995, he was appointed head of the Rabat office.[6] During his first ten years of career, he specialized in auditing with a strong involvement in the public sector. As such, he participated in privatization of strategic sectors: Oil and Gas (Total, Samir, SCP), Telecom (Maroc Telecom) and Thé et Sucre (ONTS), local government audits, and audits of large public establishments: ONEP, ONE, ODEP and RAM. In 2002, the General Assembly of Mazars Associates in Budapest co-listed him as an international associate. He becomes the first partner co-opted in Morocco after the founder Abdelkader Masnaoui.[7]

From 2000, Diop became involved in missions on the continent by developing an offer of support for states and governments in their development plans. It starts with Senegal and Mauritania and then in many other countries.[8] He was involved in the development of many Moroccan companies in sub-Saharan Africa such as banks, insurance companies, telecom operators, manufacturers, real estate operators[9].

In January 2017, he was appointed head of Mazars Morocco, succeeding Kamal Mokdad[10]'[11]. In the same year, he joined the Africa Board of the Mazars group[12].

In 2019, he was appointed to cumulatively manage Mazars Business Development in Africa and the Middle East and the launch of Mazars Financial Services activities in South Africa.

Community activities[edit]

In 2015, he joined the Board of Directors of the Moroccan employers confederation, the CGEM, where he was appointed chairman of the "Africa and South-South" commission for a three-year term, under the chairmanship of Meriem Bensalah Chaqroun[13]'[14]. He is in charge of strengthening economic relations between Morocco and its African partners[15].

In September 2020, the confederation appoints him president of the “Africa” Commission of the CGEM under the mandate of Chakib Alj[16]'[17]'[18]

Previously, Diop chaired the Association of Senegalese Nationals Residing in Morocco (Arserem) from 2006 to 2013[19]'[20]'[21]. During this period he launched and organized the concepts of “Week of Senegal in Morocco” (4 editions) and “Caravan of Friendship and Solidarity Morocco - Mauritania - Senegal” (3 editions) for the strengthening of economic relations between Morocco, Senegal and the rest of West Africa.
