Aaron Benitez (born October 2, 1989) is an American animal entrepreneur who created a YouTube channel called Aaron’s Animals[1]. The channel features videos which utilize special effects with real animals and feature his two pet cats, Prince Michael and Phil. Benitez has made 70 videos and amassed over 357,000 subscribers on the YouTube channel and often stars in them himself alongside Prince Michael and Phil. Benitez also keeps an updated Instagram account, Facebook page, and Twitter account as well as a website he uses to sell Prince Michael merchandise.

Early Life[edit]

Benitez grew up being home-schooled with his younger brother. They are 2 years apart and grew up fighting a lot of the times. When Benitez was 12, they started making videos together. They started with simple music videos and they slowly transitioned into action videos. Benitez credits the home videos he made with his brother for his love and passion for film.[2]

Career[edit]

Pre-Youtube 2010[edit]

Prior to becoming a viral hit on YouTube, Benitez was a student at Biola University until the end of his sophomore year. His parents could no longer able to afford the tuition and instead of taking out loans, Benitez took a different path and decided to live homeless. To make an income, Benitez started vfxbro.com , a visual effects training website and YouTube channel and founded a wedding videography website, DP Weddings. Because he had finished 2 full years at Biola, he was classified as an alumnus and could use the facilities at the school for a minimal cost. He would live out of a Suburban that he bought on Craigslist, and would park the car near the school.[3]

Social Media Start[edit]

The revenues he makes from his two businesses allow him to have a income while he can make Youtube videos with Prince Michael and Phil. In 2014, under the name “Aaron’s Animals” Benitez created Vine and Instagram accounts, which utilized his skills in visual effects with real animals. The main star of most of his videos is his cat Prince Michael, a gray British Shorthair that he adopted in Brooklyn. While they lived together in Brooklyn, they only posted city pictures but when they moved to LA, they started to build up popularity on Facebook.

Youtube Popularity[edit]

Over the years he has had numerous collaborations with other viral YouTubers such as Zach King and Logan Paul. One of their first videos that went viral was called “Cat Sledding”. Over the years it has attracted over 770,000 views and over 4,000 “thumbs ups’.Alongside his business partner Zach King, Benitez has made many videos featuring his editing skills and special effects skills along with King staying more on the directing side of the production. Benitez’s most viral video to date as of February 2018 was a video called “Pico De Gato" which has over 5.8 million views and 59 thousand "thumbs ups."[4]

Legitimacy

Despite his huge viral success on Youtube, Benitez has been questioned numerous times whether the animals used were real or not. Despite using visual effects, Benitez says that all the animals seen are real. All animals shown in the videos are real and that shows why the videos are so short. Benitez explains videos can take from 6-68 hours depending on the videos[5]. They will even have to re shoot the scene sometimes if something doesn't quite work out.
