%Arabica, also known as % ΔRΔBICΔ, is a Japanese coffeehouse chain based in Discovery Bay, Hong Kong.[1][2][3][4][5]

Company history[edit]

The coffee brand was founded by Kenneth Shoji. After the Tōhoku earthquake destroyed his house in Fukushima Prefecture in 2011, he moved to Hong Kong. As soon as he decided to start a coffee business, he went to Hawaii and purchased a coffee farm. In 2013, Shoji opened the first %Arabica café in Hong Kong. In 2014, %Arabica opened its worldwide flagship store in the Kyoto’s historic Higashiyama district. The coffee brand is known for using its custom-made espresso machines, manufactured in Seattle, the machines allow baristas to have acceptable control while creating craft drinks.[6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14]
%Arabica was described as the "Japan's cult-favorite hit coffee shop" by Eater.[15]
As of 2021, the chain has over 94 locations worldwide in 17 countries including United Kingdom,[16][17] United States,[18] Indonesia,[19] Qatar, China, Bahrain, Malaysia,[20] Morocco, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Japan, France,[21] Singapore, Cambodia, Philippines, Thailand[22] and Oman. The 94 existing locations of %Arabica are all franchise operations, except for the three in Kyoto.[23]
